Each year, August 30th is recognized as the International Day of the Disappeared, when people gather to commemorate those who have fallen victim to enforced disappearance. This day holds special meaning in Nepal where more than 1,300 people remain missing from the country's 'People's War' that took place between 1996 and 2006. I was in attendance for this years events. On the final evening of programs a ceremony was held in Kathmandu's Durbar Square and a candle was lit for each person that disappeared during the conflict.
